History and Trivia
Ocean Spray is an agricultural cooperative, owned by about 600 cranberry growers in North America and 50 grapefruit growers in Florida.
Three cranberry growers formed Ocean Spray cooperative in 1930 in an effort to expand the market for cranberries, and introduced Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail in that same year. In 1963 Ocean Spray revolutionized the cranberry market (and the juice market) when they introduced their first juice blend - Cran•Apple™ Cranberry Apple Juice Drink.
Ocean Spray expanded its coop in 1976 to include grapefruit growers in Florida's Indian River region, and Ocean Spray Grapefruit Juice became the top selling bottled grapefruit juice.
Americans consume 5,062,500 gallons of jellied cranberry sauce every holiday season.
Craisins® Sweetened Dried Cranberries were introduced in 1993.
During the holiday season (September - December), Ocean Spray sells 72 million cans of cranberry sauce. That's 80% of our total sauce business.
Jellied cranberry sauce (the log) is most preferred by consumers totaling 75% of overall cranberry sauce sales.
More than 94% of Thanksgiving dinners include cranberry sauce.
