Recipes from The Inglenook Cookbook
by The Sisters of the Brethren Church (1906)
Take 3 pints of sour milk or buttermilk, 2 large teaspoonfuls of soda dissolved in 1/2 cup of hot water and 1 tablespoonful of salt. Stir well, then add 1 1/2 pints of wheat bran, 3 pints of fine corn meal and 4 tablespoonfuls of melted lard. Mix and pour into a dripping pan, bake 1 hour in a moderate oven. When fed, moisten with hot sweet milk or water and sprinkle with black pepper.
