Recipes from The Inglenook Cookbook
by The Sisters of the Brethren Church (1906)
Put 1/3 ounce of alum in 1 1/2 pints of water and bring to a boil; then add 4 pounds of white sugar and boil about 3 minutes. Strain while hot, and add a teaspoonful of the following: 5 drops of rose oil into 1 pint of alcohol (or a proportionate quantity of each). This makes about 1/2 gallon.
