SHORTCAKES AND PUDDINGS

 BLACK PUDDING
 

 One-half cup sweet milk, 1/2 cup of molasses, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 cup of flour, 3 eggs, 1/2 teaspoonful of soda, 1 teaspoonful each of cinnamon and cloves. Steam 1 hour. Sauce: 1 pint of boiling water, 1 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoonful of butter, a pinch of salt, 1 tablespoonful of cornstarch dissolved in cold water. Stir all together. Let come to a boil. Season with nutmeg.
