MARY HONDROS: All right, so here's the news about colon cleansing. It's all the rave right now, but the truth is that your body doesn't really need to be artificially cleansed. Some companies market their formulas as normal and necessary, but in truth actually, what can happen is that they can cause small tears in your colon and they can cause dehydration as well.
So that's what these unnatural formulas do. Your body actually cleanses itself and one of the things that does that is fiber. Fiber is made to kind of move things along through your body, insoluble and soluble fibers. So if you consume the recommended 25 grams per day if you're female and 38 if you're male, then the fiber will do all the colon cleansing that you need. So, just remember that when you're trying to include enough fiber in your diet that you can, one, include--you can get plenty of fiber from eating 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, which is the recommended amount.
Number 2, beans are the number source of fiber, so work in a cup here and there everyday, especially something like kidney beans or black beans. Those are great sources of fiber. Thirdly, drink plenty of water. Not only does this prevent dehydration but it also keeps things moving. And it helps fiber work in your body when it has water to pull and move through.
And lastly, if you--for some reason, don't get your recommended amount of fiber, you can go to any drugstore and you can find a fiber supplement. Those are much safer than using something like high colonics or colon cleansers that are made to artificially cleanse your colons. So those are 4 tips on cleansing your body naturally.
