ALICE MERRRIT: Now, I'm going to talk to you about organic greens. A lot of people are going to buying more organic produce in effort to try to decrease their exposure to harmful pesticides. Leafy green such as lettuce and spinach do tend to be vegetables that are higher in pesticides exposure. So if you are going to think about buying organic, organic greens might be a good thing to invest in. Greens are very, very healthy for you.
They are wonderful sources of vitamins and minerals. Also, other tips that you can do to help reduce the pesticides on greens, just make sure you wash the greens thoroughly, trim off the top so the ends. If you have a head of lettuce trimming away the outside part of the lettuce can help reduce the exposure to the pesticides in the center part. Some important things to remember, leafy greens do tend to be higher in pesticides, so it might be a good thing to buy organic. Greens are also very, very healthy and packed with lots of vitamins and minerals.
Remember to wash your greens very well and remove any outer covering to help reduce pesticide use and again, remember to get a variety of leafy greens in you diet. These are all things that are healthy about organic greens.
