Recipes from The Inglenook Cookbook
by The Sisters of the Brethren Church (1906)
To 1 quart of flour add a level teaspoonful of soda, the same of salt; about 1/4 teaspoonful of baking powder. Sift together and add 1 large tablespoonful of lard. Mix thoroughly with the hand. Into this stir, with a spoon, about 2 cups of sour milk or enough to make a soft dough. Roll to less than 1/2 inch and bake in a quick oven. In case the milk is very sour, use a little more soda.
