Recipes from The Inglenook Cookbook
by The Sisters of the Brethren Church (1906)
Take 2 cups of sugar, 1 cup of lard, 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk, 1 big teaspoonful of soda, 1 teaspoonful of cinnamon, 1 teaspoonful of nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoonful of ground cloves and 1 cup of raisins. Dissolve the soda in the milk and add 3 cups of flour. This cake should be made several days before using. Keep it well wrapped to prevent drying out.
