ALICE MERRRIT: Now, I'm going to talk to you about organic meats. What it means to be an organic meat is that the animal was raised without any antibiotics and no added growth hormones.
A lot of animals that are not raised in organic atmosphere, they add extra growth hormones in order to bulk the animal up to produce more meats. Also, organic animals are fed organic foods. And so, they're not exposed to a lot of the grain-fed things that some non-organic animals are exposed to. When looking for organic meats, you want to make sure again that you still look for leaner sources like chicken, turkey; wild fish is going to be better than farm-raised fish. Important things to remember when buying organic meats are if you're at a high stage of growth such as infancy, childhood, or pregnancy, it would be important to consider buying organic meats.
You can also trim the fat away from meats because a lot of the residues and harmful things concentrate in animal fat. It's still important to buy leaner sources of organic meats such as chicken, turkey, fish. You want to look for wild versus farm-raised fish. All these things are very important when you're looking for organic meats.
