Experience Mardi-Gras and Cajun cuisine in Manitou! Enjoy samples of gumbo from professional chefs and amateur cooks to help determine who has the best gumbo! Gumbo is a Cajun soup that contains roux and dried sassafras. It also usually contains a variety of meats such as chicken, seafood, or sausage. Okra and other ingredients along with seasonings and sometimes even rice can be found in gumbo as well. Join us at Soda Springs Park from 10:45am till 1:00pm for an afternoon of gumbo and Mardi-Gras! Samples of gumbo will be available for $.75. The amateur and professional divisions will compete for their own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies as well as for cash prizes. There will also be an award for Best Showmanship and People’s Choice. Stick around after the Gumbo Cook-Off when Manitou Avenue will fill up with spectators to watch the Mardi-Gras Parade at 1:00pm. Get into the Mardi-Gras spirit and enjoy a Cajun tradition.

The three-night event will feature Dunton Hot Springs' Executive Chef Karlos Baca together with top food and wine personalities and partners including: renowned chef and Native American culinary expert Loretta Oden; Chef Jessica Sanchez of Loba Restaurant in Miami; Hayfork Wine; Carlo Mondavi of Continuum and RAEN Winery; and John Sutcliffe and Joe Buckel, owner and winemaker, respectively, of Sutcliffe Vineyards, Dunton Hot Springs' sister vineyard in McElmo Canyon, CO. Often referred to as one of the top culinary hotels in the US, Dunton Hot Springs' Epicurean Weekend will allow guests to sample regionally inspired cuisine while closely interacting with the renowned personalities crafting each culinary experience.
