Robert Cobb(20th century) Robert Cobb, owner of Hollywood's Brown Derby restaurant, created the Cobb salad in 1936. He created it by accident when fixing himself a salad one evening. He found an avocado and decided to chop this with some lettuce, added celery and tomatoes, some strips of bacon and sliced chicken breast. Topped with some chives, hard boiled egg, watercress and Roquefort cheese, and finished with a vinaigrette dressing. (The sliced chicken breast may have been added later). |
