The local food movement continues to gain strength with more and more Americans enjoying the culinary and ecological benefits of local products, especially fruits and vegetables. An ardent supporter of local vendors and foods, Sebastians recently announced it will host a Farmer's Market every Wednesday 11 AM - 3 PM in its Interactive Kitchen. The market is a partnership between Sebastians and Lowell Brothers, the oldest produce supplier in Boston. Lowell Brothers carries an extensive line of fruits and vegetables, bought directly from local farms and markets across the United States. Sebastians Farmers' Market will feature a large, seasonal assortment of local fruits and vegetables along with a selection of fresh breads, flowers and other products. Additionally, Sebastians Chefs will provide recipes and the opportunity for guests to sample dishes prepared with ingredients from that day's market offerings. See some sample recipes for SPRING SWEET PEA SOUP, SPRING ONION AND HERB RISOTTO and ROASTED SESAME ASPARAGUS, ideal for fresh and local produce. Located at 157 Seaport Boulevard in Boston's Seaport District, the Interactive Kitchen is adjacent to Sebastians Congress Street Retail Café.
"Sebastians believes in the benefits of using farm fresh produce which not only enhances menu offerings, but also helps support local farmers," explains Sebastians President Emil Grosso. "Our commitment to using fresh, local ingredients within our retail and catering operations is unwavering. Now, we want to provide access to fresh and locally grown produce to people who live and work in the Seaport District. We know most people don't always have time to eat fresh, nutritious foods, but we're hoping our Farmer's Market will be just another way Sebastians helps our customers eat and live well."
The local food movement encourages consumers to eat locally grown foods that do not have to be shipped great distances, improving the taste and nutritional value of the food, while minimizing the impact on the environment. "When given a choice, I will always choose local," says Sebastians Executive Chef Tom Barton. "Fruits and vegetables can ripen on the vine longer if they don't need to travel far to get to the consumer. The food is fresher, it tastes better and it's better for you and for the environment. Our farmers' market will allow the public to incorporate the unique flavor of farm fresh foods into their own culinary efforts."
